Gather some ideas for planning your garden, whether it will be for home or commercial use. You can determine all the things that you need so that you don't waste any money on equipment that isn't needed, or the wrong seeds for your type of environment.

So that you don't shock your plants, try gradually accustoming them to conditions and temperature. Put them outdoors in the sun for no more than two hours the first day. As the week progresses, gradually increase their exposure to the outdoors. By the weekend, the plants can make that big move without a problem!

Both cat grass and wheat grass are good for giving your errant feline pause. You could also repel your pet by planting rosemary or placing citrus fruit peels around your garden.

Do you want fresh mint leaves without having to worry about them growing too quickly? Instead of planting mint in your garden, keep it in a large container or pot to prevent it from spreading. The container can be planted in the ground, and it will still prevent the plant from dominating the garden.

You can use natural materials or other plants in your garden to keep away pests. Slugs stay away from marigolds and onions when they are planted in a garden. Insect pests will stay away from seedlings and trees if you use wood ash around the base as a mulch. These methods are environmentally-friendly and mean you do not have to resort to harsh chemicals.

Any time that you are gardening in direct sunlight, dress appropriately to prevent skin damage. Wear hats and sunglasses, and make use of sunscreen. Protecting yourself from the sun will lower your chances of getting skin cancer, as well as prevent premature aging from sun damage.

Plant heather to attract beneficial insects. Heather will attract bees early in the spring as well as other beneficial insects. Because it is usually left alone, heather beds can become a home for spiders, beetles and other insects. Bearing this in mind, it is always a good idea to wear horticulture gloves when pruning your heather!

When you are organic horticulture, ask your children to lend a hand. Gardens are a wonderful place for kids to learn, and working side by side with them can strengthen the bond that you have.

If you have recently suffered a cut, discontinue gardening until the cut has healed completely. A cut could get infected if it gets in contact with grime and dirt in the garden. Now, there are bandages available that will cover and seal the injured area completely, allowing you to continue your gardening projects.

Prepare the ground for a perennial garden quickly and easily. Simply slice into the ground with a spade, flip the top layer of soil, and then cover it with several inches of wood chips. Wait two weeks, then dig in and plant the new perennials.

When planting your organic garden, spacing is an important thing to keep in mind. It is easy to underestimate the amount of space that the plants will take up once they start to grow. Failure to provide adequate room will restrict growth because it forces plants to compete for valuable nutrients and oxygen. Plan accordingly and put an appropriate amount of distance between seeds.

Old laundry baskets are handy tools at harvest time. An old laundry basket makes an excellent strainer for cleaning your produce. You can rinse your produce off while it is in the basket, and the excess water will strain through the holes of your laundry basket.

Consider solving your weed problem without the use of toxic chemicals. Take layers of newspapers and use them for weed control. Weeds cannot grow without light. Newspapers placed atop weeds will starve them from light and they will eventually die. Old newspapers are a valuable addition to your compost heap. Add a layer of mulch on top to make it look more attractive!

It just requires doing research, working a lot outside, and having a lot of patience. The effort will pay off, and you will see a good reward for your hard work.
